Elastio is the first backup-as-code platform for all of your data in the cloud. With a mission to make protecting and securing customer data as easy as pushing code, Elasito provides the safety of backups that you can easily automate and the security of robust ransomware and malware detection for all of your AWS assets.

The idea for Elastio was conceived because we could not find a suitable backup and disaster recovery tool for our cloud workloads. We found that existing backup and disaster recovery products have the following shortcomings:

• They lack the ability to deploy as-code processes.
• They are not designed to leverage the scale of the public cloud.
• They do not support automated scaling.
• They require manual configuration.
• They do not support the variety of data that we need to protect.
• They lack the ability to automate data protection into our deploy processes.

As a result, we were forced to utilize multiple tools to deploy our infrastructure and back up our data. Because we could not deploy critical backup and recovery components as code, it diminished the value of our entire Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) investment.

In 2019 we set out to build the cloud-native backup and disaster recovery service that we ourselves would want to use. We made sure the product is API-first, with everything you can do in the UI also available in the API and in our comprehensive CLI.

We have automated the common scenarios and added them as out-of-the-box features, so typical deployments can get up and running with a few cli commands or, if you prefer, a few clicks. But at the same time, we wanted to make sure the developers and DevOps engineers (for whom we built the product) have the flexibility necessary to handle the deployment scenarios that we didn’t think of. Therefore, you’ll always have the option of customizing Elastio with custom scripts or your own code.
